Setting up an e-mail client to access 1and1 e-mail

Sometimes Internet Service Providers are known to block Port 25. They expect their customers use their outgoing servers to send emails. There is a way around this. We have provided an alternate port. It is 587. You can change the port number in your email client. (Mostly found under "Advanced Settings"). A few examples are as follows:

MS OUTLOOK 2003

1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2003. Click "Tools" and select "E-mail Accounts..."


2. Select "Add a new e-mail account" and click "Next".


3. Choose "POP3" and click "Next".


4. Enter the information highlighted in green.
(User Name: your mailbox number or Email address)
(Click "More Settings". (Note: Make sure the box near "Log on using Secure
(Password Authentication (SPA)" is Unchecked)


5. Select "Outgoing Server" tab then check "My Outgoing server (SMTP) requires
authentication." and choose "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".



OUTLOOK EXPRESS

1. Open Outlook Express and click "Tools" and choose "Accounts".


2. Select the "Mail" tab. Click "Add" and choose "Mail...".


3. Enter a Display Name and click "Next".


4. Enter the e-mail address and click "Next".


5. Choose "POP3" and enter the following:
Incoming mail: pop.1and1.com
Outgoing mail: smtp.1and1.com
and click "Next".


6. Enter the Account name or email address. If you want the system to remember the password, check
the box near "Remember Password" and enter the password. Click "Next".
(Note: Make sure the box near "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is Unchecked)


7. Finally click "Finish".


8. Now highlight the account and click on "Properties".


9. Choose the "Servers" tab. Check "My server requires authentication". Click "Settings".


10. Choose "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" and click "OK".


11. Finally click "Apply" and "OK" and close the "Internet Accounts" window.
